Family Base-U.S Green Card-Father or Mother
U.S. Green Card petitions for parents (either mother or father):
- Eligibility:
- To petition for your parents to live in the United States as Green Card holders, you must be a U.S.聽citizen and at least 21 years old1.
- Green Card holders (permanent residents) cannot petition to bring parents to live permanently in the United States.
- Process:
- As a U.S. citizen, you鈥檒l need to file Form I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative) to initiate the process.
- Once approved, your parents can apply for lawful permanent resident status (Green Card) based on their relationship with you.
- Adjustment of Status:
- If your parents are already in the United States, they can apply for adjustment of status (Form I-485) to become permanent residents while staying in the country.
- If they are outside the U.S., they can go through consular processing to obtain a Green Card.
