Family Base-U.S Green Card-Brother or Sister
Permanent residents may not petition to bring siblings to live permanently in the United States.
To petition to bring your sibling brother or sister to live and work in the United States as a Green Card holder, you must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.
Once USCIS receives your Form I-130, the agency processes the application. USCIS will then send you:
A confirmation receipt notice of the petition,
A notice of a biometrics appointment date,
An interview appointment date may be scheduled, and a written notice or decision.
Usually, when the USCIS approves the petition, the agency sends it to the U.S. Department of State’s National Visa Center (NVC). When a visa is available, the NVC notifies you and your relative about the invitation to apply for an immigrant visa. The invitation extends to qualifying dependents as well.
When the time comes for the relative to immigrate to the United States, the petitioner must agree to be his/her financial sponsor by filing. The Form I-864, Affidavit of Support must be file when the time comes for your relative to immigrate. The form states the sponsor’s commitment to the financial support for the intended immigrating relative.
