Are you a U.S. citizen hoping to bring your mother, father, or both parents to live permanently in the United States?<\/p>\n

U.S. immigration law allows eligible U.S. citizens who are at least 21 years old to petition for their parents to become lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders).<\/p>\n

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW BEFORE STARTING THE PROCESS?<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. U.S. Citizenship:<\/strong> You must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years old to petition for your parents. Lawful permanent residents cannot petition for their parents.<\/li>\n
  2. Qualifying Family Relationship:<\/strong> You must provide documentation establishing the qualifying parent-child relationship.<\/li>\n
  3. Form I-130:<\/strong> A separate Petition for Alien Relative must be filed for each parent you wish to sponsor.<\/li>\n
  4. Immediate Relative Category:<\/strong> Parents of U.S. citizens age 21 or older are classified as immediate relatives. This means they are not subject to annual immigrant visa numerical limits. However, petition processing and other immigration requirements still apply.<\/li>\n
  5. Financial Sponsorship:<\/strong> In most cases, the U.S. citizen petitioner must submit Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, along with the required financial documentation during the appropriate stage of the process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
